Support Sierra Repertory Theatre

Your Role
The magic of live theatre begins with you. Sierra Repertory Theatre is a 501(c)3 charitable nonprofit (Federal ID # 95-3370703) Ticket revenue covers less than two-thirds of the cost to produce a show. That’s why we rely on donors like you to close the gap. Every dollar you donate becomes the paint on a beautiful backdrop, the feathers on an amazing costume, or the lights that make a guest performer shine.

Sierra Repertory Theatre always welcomes new faces, especially when these faces help us reach our goals. Sierra Rep’s performances strive to reach all kinds of audiences through our captivating stories, music and dance. Yet, we have not traveled this journey alone nor could we have made it more than 35 years without our volunteers. Many community supporters have given us their time and energy, but most of all their dedication to their local nonprofit theater. Our supporters believe in everything that we do, what we stand for, and what we want to accomplish. To help Sierra Rep continue energizing our region’s culture and economy, we need to heavily rely on a large group of volunteers. We have more than 450 loyal volunteers — who often travel up to an hour if not more — to help our theatre patrons have an enjoyable, rich experience at both of our venues.

Ushers and Bartenders

We are currently seeking volunteers of all kinds — from ushers for our performances, bartenders at our East Sonora Theatre, and volunteers for our special events. For more information, call the Sierra Rep Usher Line at (209) 532-0502 ext. 204 or email sierrarepushers@gmail.com. As you know, volunteers play a vital role in Sierra Rep’s future. We want to thank you in advance for becoming part of our team. With your help, Sierra Rep will continue to rank among the top nonprofit theatres in California.

Volunteer Requirements

Volunteers must be at least 18 years old or accompanied by an adult to be an usher. Volunteers must be 21 years or older to assist with bartender and concession duties. Volunteers must be able to stand for extended periods of time and be able to lift 20 pounds or more.

If you have any questions or would like more information on how to help Sierra Rep, please email eervin@sierrarep.org or call (209) 532-0502 ext. 113 and speak with our Audience Service Director Erika Ervin.

Many of the actors who perform in the outstanding shows created by Sierra Rep need local housing. These stars come from across the country to perform for you. Sierra Rep’s housing program finds local residents with a spare room to host visiting performers for the duration of each play. While many families currently participate as hosts, we are in need of additional participants in Columbia, Sonora and Jamestown. In any given year, Sierra Repertory attracts more than 150 artists to Tuolumne County. Over half of these artists need local housing throughout the year, including several weeks when we have nearly 50 artists in town at once!

  • You can participate by providing a bedroom and private or semi-private bath for a Sierra Rep star. Their needs are simple:
  • A private bedroom (linens included)
  • Private or semi-private access to a bathroom with shower.
  • Space in the kitchen and a cupboard for the artist to keep some food items. (Note: it is not necessary to provide meals.)
  • Parking space.
  • A desire to help an artist further his or her career in professional theatre.
  • The artists take care of everything else!

  • The artists arrive approximately 3 weeks before opening night and return home the day after closing. However, if you would rather host for a shorter time, please email us.
  • Our artists are responsible for their own food and transportation.
  • It is not necessary for you to be home to host a star as they can house-sit while you travel.
  • Performers’ hours are long, usually starting in the afternoon and going late into the night. Many, also, return to their own homes on their days off.
  • They can be a great comfort to those who live alone. A young person in the house, even occasionally, can provide companionship.
  • You help Sierra Repertory Theatre bring quality entertainment to Tuolumne County.

If you would like to participate in the Housing program, or would like more information, contact Gracen Harvey at 209-532-0502 ext. 112. or  gharvey@sierrarep.org.

Sierra Rep will gladly accept in-kind donations for our theatre including items for our scene shop, costume shop, sets and props. Items may be donated during regular box office hours in East Sonora. Donations will only be accepted at the Fallon House Theatre in Columbia two hours prior to show time during Fallon performances. For more information, call Erika Ervin at 532-0502 ext 113.

Here’s our current “wish list.” If you can help us out, you earn our deepest gratitude – and a tax deduction!
