Wardrobe Supervisor

Reports to:  Costume Shop Manager, Artistic Director, Managing Director

Job Type:   Full-time. Salaried:  $32,000/yr + health.

The Wardrobe Supervisor serves as the backstage performance dresser for all mainstage productions. They are responsible for the upkeep of costumes, including reasonable repair work and maintenance of costumes to be presentable and ready for every performance.   Shop duties include:  laundry as needed, organization and storage of stock and assisting the costume shop manager and/or costume designer with fittings, electronic documentation, and average costume shop activity assistance.

Examples of Duties:

Serves as backstage dresser for performances in the East Sonora and Fallon House Theatres.

Able to provide light repair work in emergency and non-emergency situations.

Preshow wardrobe checks that all costumes are show-ready and in their proper place.

Post show checks to make sure repairs are notified to stage management for performance reports.

Tracking costumes during performances after quick changes.

Making sure costumes are returned to dressing rooms and hung, prepared, and set for the next performance.

Making sure laundry needs are clearly communicated to costume shop for all performances.

Ensuring dressing rooms are maintained neatly and cleanly.

Check backstage areas for any missing items.

Communication with the costume shop, especially with repairs that cannot be handled by Wardrobe Supervisor.

Maintain a clean environment and always provide a calm and professional manner.

Qualifications:

2-3 years of professional experience in a similar position.

Able to conduct quick changes, often solo, to ensure an actor is ready for their entrances.

Working knowledge of all technical production and performance aspects of theatre.

Must have strong organizational, communication and people skills.

Reasonable computer skills.

Ability to work productively under pressure.

Able to maintain a calm and professional manner, especially when dressing actors backstage so the actor is confident and able to focus on their performance.

Wig maintenance experience a plus.

Other Requirements:

Possess a valid driver’s license and have access to a vehicle for transportation to and from business related events.

Work Conditions:

Ability to work long hours when required and work with a flexible schedule.

Must be willing to work in backstage environments with exposure to moving scenery, loud sound systems, noise, vibration, and dust.

Must be willing to travel and work at various sites.

Physical Demands:

Must be able to perform physical activities such as lifting, bending, squatting, standing while dressing actors.
