2027 Season Auditions
Sierra Repertory Theatre is preparing to cast its 2027 season, featuring an ambitious lineup of musicals, classic plays and highly theatrical ensemble productions.
In-person auditions are planned for late October, at the East Sonora Theatre in Sonora, California. Complete audition information including appointment procedures, eligibility, preparation requirements, contract terms and compensation, will be posted as soon as those details are finalized. Please do not request an audition appointment at this time.
The following roles are currently anticipated to be available. More complete character descriptions, doubling assignments and production information will be included with the official audition announcement. Casting needs, role availability and production schedules are subject to change.

A cast of six actors creates the world of Dickens’ novel. The Narrator tracks require versatile, highly theatrical performers capable of playing multiple characters across age, gender and type.

Narrator One

Helen Keller
A young girl who lost her sight and hearing as a toddler. Helen is intelligent, determined, curious, and desperate to communicate with the world around her. This principal role is told primarily through physical action and requires exceptional concentration, emotional availability, stamina, and comfort with carefully choreographed physical interaction.
Young performers who are Deaf, hard of hearing, blind, have low vision, or otherwise identify as disabled are encouraged to audition.
Martha
A young character in the Keller household. Requires confidence, focus, and strong ensemble instincts.
Percy
A young character in the Keller household. Requires confidence, focus, and strong ensemble instincts.
Perkins Institute Students
Young students at the Perkins Institute for the Blind. These featured ensemble roles require attentive physical storytelling and the ability to work closely as a group.

A curious young clownfish born with a “lucky fin” who brims with excitement about the world beyond the reef. Energetic, expressive performer with a strong singing voice and the ability to balance innocence, determination, and growing confidence. Vocal range: A3–E♭5.
Young performers with limb differences are especially encouraged to audition.
Pearl / Ensemble
An excitable and friendly flapjack octopus who is quick to welcome Nemo. Strong singer and mover. Vocal range: A3–E♭5.
Sheldon / Ensemble
A mischievous young seahorse with an appetite for adventure. Strong singer and comic performer. Vocal range: A3–E♭5.
Tad / Ensemble
An energetic and self-assured butterflyfish who encourages Nemo to venture beyond the reef. Strong singer, mover, and character actor. Vocal range: A3–E♭5.
Squirt / Ensemble
A lively young sea turtle with confidence, energy, and an adventurous spirit. Strong movement and musical skills required. Vocal range: E4–B4.
Youth Ocean Ensemble
Additional young performers may appear as Reef Kids, Moonfish, Jellyfish, Sea Turtles, and other inhabitants of the big blue world.

Youth performers must be strong storytellers capable of working within the production’s dramatic and musical demands.
Young Cosette
Fantine’s young daughter, forced into labor while living with the Thénardiers. Despite her difficult circumstances, she retains tenderness, hope, and imagination. Requires a clear, expressive singing voice and strong emotional instincts. Vocal range: A3–C5.
Young Éponine
The indulged young daughter of the Thénardiers and a contrast to Young Cosette. This is a featured nonsinging role requiring confidence, focus, and clear character work.
Gavroche
A brave, clever, and streetwise child who survives by his wits on the streets of Paris. Requires an exceptional young actor with a strong unchanged voice, confidence, humor, and considerable emotional maturity. Vocal range: B3–G5.
The production includes staged violence and the depiction of a child’s death. All material involving youth performers will be carefully staged and discussed with performers and their parents or guardians.

Youth Ensemble
Young performers of all genders and ethnicities will help create the world of Verona as members of the Montague and Capulet households, citizens, party guests, attendants, servants, and mourners. Some performers may receive featured lines or smaller named assignments based on casting.
Strong focus, movement, physical storytelling, and ensemble instincts are required. An interest in Shakespeare and heightened language is encouraged, but previous classical-theatre experience is not required.
Some assignments may involve dance, carefully choreographed crowd movement, and staged conflict. All physical material will be developed and rehearsed with appropriate safety practices.

Susan Walker
A bright, observant, practical young girl who has been taught to distrust fantasy. Her developing relationship with Kris Kringle challenges what she believes about imagination, generosity, and faith. This central role requires intelligence, emotional honesty, excellent comic timing, and the ability to carry significant dialogue.
Youth Ensemble
Additional young performers may appear throughout the production as parade participants, shoppers, holiday visitors, and other featured characters.

Sierra Rep looks for young performers who bring focus, imagination, generosity, and a willingness to collaborate. Prior professional experience is not required unless otherwise noted.
Depending on the production and role, auditions may include:
- A prepared song or monologue
- Music taught at the audition
- Cold readings from the script
- Movement or physical storytelling
- A brief conversation with the director or casting team
Production-specific preparation instructions will be provided when audition dates are announced.
Young performers must be available for all technical rehearsals, and performances associated with their role. Individual schedules will vary according to the production and assignment. Detailed rehearsal expectations, school-day requirements, performance calendars, and known conflicts will be discussed before casting is finalized.
Sierra Repertory Theatre is committed to inclusive casting. Young performers of all races, ethnicities, gender identities, and abilities are encouraged to audition except where a character’s identity is specifically integral to the material.
Ages will be used as general casting guides rather than strict requirements. Scripted character identities, pronouns, and relationships will be retained unless an authorized change is secured.
Some youth roles require sustained physical storytelling, staged physical contact, movement, puppetry, or emotionally demanding material. Production-specific requirements and known safety considerations will be communicated clearly to performers and their parents or guardians throughout the casting and rehearsal process.

Ticket Services Associates – Sierra Repertory Theatre is seeking friendly, dependable individuals with excellent customer service and communication skills. Candidates should be comfortable learning ticketing software, managing multiple priorities, working flexible hours, and assisting other departments as needed. Part-time. Seasonal Marketing Associate – Sierra Repertory Theatre is seeking a creative, organized individual to support the Marketing Director during the theatre’s busiest production periods. Responsibilities include social media and email marketing, website updates, graphic design, production and event promotion, photography, video, and general marketing support. Candidates should have strong communication and organizational skills and experience with social media and digital marketing. Knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite or similar design software is preferred; an interest in theatre or the performing arts is a plus. A valid driver’s license, reliable personal vehicle, and occasional evening and weekend availability are required. This Sonora-based position is seasonal, working approximately six months per year. Head of Electrics – Sierra Repertory Theatre is seeking an experienced Head of Electrics to join its year-round production staff, supporting plays, musicals, concerts, educational programs, and special events across its Sonora and Columbia venues. Responsibilities include overseeing lighting hangs, focus, programming, maintenance, and strikes; maintaining and troubleshooting lighting equipment and control systems; supporting projection and stage automation; and maintaining a safe, organized electrics department. Candidates should have professional theatrical electrics experience, strong knowledge of ETC consoles and modern lighting systems, and experience with LED fixtures, moving lights, DMX, and lighting networking. Familiarity with projection systems, stage automation, and lighting design is a plus. A1 (Lead Audio Engineer) – Sierra Repertory Theatre is seeking an experienced A1 to join its year-round production staff, supporting plays, musicals, concerts, educational programs, and special events across its Sonora and Columbia venues. Responsibilities include serving as Head of Sound and A1, mixing live performances, programming sound playback and cueing, maintaining audio equipment and systems, supporting projection and other production technologies, and maintaining a safe, organized sound department. Candidates should have professional theatrical audio experience, including experience mixing live theatre or musical productions, and strong knowledge of digital audio consoles, wireless microphone systems, QLab, Dante audio networking, and digital playback. Head Painter – Sierra Repertory Theatre is seeking an experienced scenic painter to join its year-round production staff. Responsibilities include executing scenic treatments from designer renderings, mixing and matching colors, creating textures and finishes, leading paint calls, maintaining supplies and work areas, and collaborating with the scenic and production teams. Candidates should have professional theatrical painting experience, knowledge of scenic painting techniques and materials, and strong organizational and time-management skills. Design Opportunities – Sierra Repertory Theatre welcomes submissions from experienced and emerging lighting, scenic, projection/video, and costume designers for current and future seasons. For artists based outside the area, SRT provides round-trip airfare, airport transportation from San Francisco or Sacramento, hosted housing, and access to a (possibly shared) company vehicle.
